Transparency, providing information, cooperation
As the regulatory and social principles differ throughout Europe, the activities of the mobile operators within the DT Group require different national strategies to get to efficient and purposeful guidelines on electromagnetic fields. However, what all national strategies have in common is the joint commitment to transparency, being informed, providing advice and active participation.
Croatian Telecom acknowledges the general public’s true concern over the impacts of mobile communications technology, of mobile handsets as much as of base stations. Taking into account the large number of base stations and millions of customers, Croatian Telecom is determined to take the public’s concern seriously and to deal with general public’s needs and environmental needs in an open, constructive and sincere manner.
With numerous activities on our national markets in Europe, DT Group plays an active role in the public dialog on electromagnetic fields. In cooperation with the other operators, governments and the scientific community, we support independent scientific studies in health research and participate in counseling, communication and providing information to the public and other important subjects on all social levels.
Transparency
- Croatian Telecom has set up internal responsibilities and workflows with regard to complaints and inquiries on technology impacts, health and other related issues.
- Croatian Telecom is aware of the general public’s interest in in mobile communications. For full transparency, Croatian Telecom supports the idea of creation of national data bases on base stations which would contain all other EMR sources as well.
- All base stations of Croatian Telecom comply with the national guidelines on exposure to non-ionizing radiation, as well as with the Guidelines of the ICNIRP- the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection. In order to improve transparency, Croatian Telecom has a Compliance Certificate for each base station.
Providing information
- In addressing the public, Croatian Telecom follows a proactive communications strategy, striving to cooperate with all interested parties. Moreover, Croatian Telecom is encouraging authorities on all levels to cooperate with the mobile industry and to set up own programs of providing information to the public.
- On its web pages and at all sales outlets, Croatian Telecom is providing manufacturers’ information on the SAR values of the devices offered.
Cooperation
- Croatian Telecom cooperates with local authorities in handling citizens’ inquiries regarding network development and selection of sites for base stations. For assistance to local authorities, Croatian Telecom provides all relevant information on our networks.
- Croatian Telecom strives to cooperate with local authorities. We aim to harmonize our position on base station sites with local authorities whenever possible.
- Croatian Telecom makes efforts to minimize visual impacts of bases stations and effects of the overall network on the landscape.
Promoting scientific expertise
- Croatian Telecom fully supports the progress of scientific expertise on EMR effects on human health and contributes to independent development programs.
- Croatian Telecom believes that limitations of exposure to electromagnetic fields should be defined on the basis of scientifically documented and recognized research, and that such limitations should be under permanent control. Furthermore, Croatian Telecom is keeping track of and assessing the latest discoveries in science, on its own.
Summary
In addition to such activity flow, Croatian Telecom is one step ahead of statutory requirements. We are convinced that our resources and our costs in this direction are a good investment, as such activities contribute to our corporate social responsibility and to sustainable development.
The large number of mobile customers and base stations obligates Croatian Telecom to be committed to optimization of the use of mobile communications and to minimization of potential risks. This is our conviction and our task.
