Of the 49 titles that applied on the 12th best Croatian novel contest, the jury chose 11 novels that remain in the contest for the tportal literary prize
Tportal's literary prize will be awarded to the author of the best novel published in Croatia in 2018, and the winner of a prize worth 50 thousand kunas is in the hands of a five-member jury comprising of the literary translator Ursula Burger (jury president), literary critic Katarina Luketić, writers and editors Miroslav Mićanović and Jadranka Pintarić and theatrical director Ivica Buljan. They selected 11 semi-final titles, which are:
- Nikola Petković, Trip to Gonars (Profil)
- Kristina Gavran, Palisandra Guitar (Disput)
- Julijana Adamović, Wild geese (Hena com)
- Dario Harjaček, Sanjica Lacković (Naklada OceanMore)
- Boris Perić, History of Spiderweb (Naklada Ljevak)
- Milana Vuković Runjić, Masters in my house (Vuković & Runjić)
- Ivica Đikić, Appearance (Fraktura d.o.o.)
- Ivana Šojat, Ezan (Fraktura d.o.o.)
- Dino Pešut, Torn knees (Fraktura d.o.o.)
- Zoran Žmirić, Patient from room 19 (Hena com)
- Ratko Cvetnić, Mud in the yard (Mozaik knjiga)
Tportal's jury will select five final titles in mid-May, and the winner will be announced on June 3 in Zagreb.
Since 2008, tportal’s literary prize for the best Croatian novel has been awarded eleven times. Last year, the best novel was “Fox” by Dubravka Ugrešić, published by Fraktura. The year before, the best novels was “Gypsy, But the Most Beautiful” by Kristian Novak published by the OceanMore publishing house. This was the second time Novak received the tportal literary prize. He was previously awarded for the novel “Dark Mother Earth” (Algoritam, a new edition OceanMore). In the previous years, the awards were given to the authors Olja Savičević Ivančević for the novel “Adios Cowboy” (Algoritam, new edition Sandorf) and Sibila Petlevski for “Time of Lies” (Fraktura), Dalibor Šimpraga for the novel '”Anastasia” (Durieux), Tahir Mujičić for the novel “Be Hamlet, Mr. Hamlet” (AGM), Drago Glamuzina for the novel “Three” (Profil), Zoran Malkoč for the novel “Roki Raketa” (Profil), Ivica Đikić for novel “I Dreamed of the Elephants' (Naklada Ljevak) and Slobodan Šnajder for the “Brass Times” (Tim Press).
