The second edition of Hack it! hackathon by Hrvatski Telekom is starting tomorrow, organised in co-operation with hub:raum start-up accelerator by Deutsche Telekom. Out of 125 submitted applications from throughout the region, 11 best teams have been selected which are about to compete to offer the best and the most comprehensive solution for future communication. Virtual and augmented reality, holograms, and artificial intelligence will certainly be included in our future communication, which was pointed out also by the humanoid female robot Pepper in the introduction. She also extended her best wishes concerning hacking to everyone.
"Hrvatski Telekom is a unique company regarding its approach which is primarily focused on STEM throughout its activities. It brings together positive initiatives, provides scholarships for students, practical work and mentorship, as well as the opportunity to work on international projects. We are addressing the digital generation that is the frontrunner of communications technology trends. This generation is striving for unlimited access to video content, instant communication, and the latest devices. We are giving them such opportunities through our services, and hackathon is a unique opportunity for them to provide us with their own vision of solutions for the future", emphasised Marija Felkel, Member of the Management Board and Chief Human Resources Officer in HT.
Hack it! hackathon is included in the wider project STEM HUB by Hrvatski Telekom, but winning at hackathon is not the end of the story, as confirmed by the example of the last year’s winning team Maggie.
"We are delighted with the fact that last year’s winning team Maggie and its personal digital assistant have already received their initial investment by hub:raum worth € 30,000. They are currently working on the prototype, whilst reputable international companies have shown interest in their solution. In only one year they have achieved substantial results in the implementation of their solution and attracted significant investment. We believe that this weekend will result in new success stories which we will vigorously support", concluded the project manager Ana Pauzar.
In addition to the teams that have applied, this year’s Hack it! hackathon will host over 130 experts, mentors and other guests from the start-up community. The applicants are expected to participate in a 24-hour hacking event, show creativity, and provide innovations, assisted by top quality experts. The work that offers the best solution will be awarded HRK 30,000, as well as the opportunity to implement its idea within hub:raum start-up accelerator by Deutsche Telekom, as well as other awards provided by the partners.
