Hrvatski Telekom has become the title sponsor of the Croatian Basketball Premiere League. Hence, HT has yet again shown its affection for Croatian sports and active life, and, after having supported the Croatian football (Hrvatski Telekom the Croatian First Football League) and running (Magenta 1 B2B RUN), it has become a partner to the most reputable Croatian basketball competition. The League comprises of 13 teams, and it will be named Hrvatski Telekom Premiere League.
This year, the basketball venues throughout the Croatia will see very exciting basketball games, since the bottom three teams will be relegated from Hrvatski Telekom Premier League at the end of the season.
The teams participating in Hrvatski Telekom Premier league are: Cibona, Cedevita, Zadar, Alkar, Ribola Kaštela, Škrljevo, Hermes Analitica, Zagreb, Vrijednosnice Osijek, Zabok, Šibenik, Jazine Arbanasi, and Split.
The first basketball match played by Hrvatski Telekom Premier League: KK Cedevita – KK Zadar is scheduled at 6:00 p.m., on Friday, 6 October 2017, and it will be broadcast on Arenasport, the channel available through MAXtv. Moreover, the matches played by the Croatian basketball teams will be broadcast on the second HRT channel, also within MAXtv.
The Croatian Basketball Premiere League was founded in 1992, and it has attracted immense public interest since its inception. Cibona was the first team to win the title of the Champion of Croatia, whereas Cedevita won the last season’s competition.
The Croatian basketball can boast as many as seven NBA players who have grown up and played their first games in the Croatian League, whilst we currently watch them play in the best world’s league - Bojan Bogdanović, Dario Šarić, Dragan Bender, Mario Hezonja, Ante Toni Žižić, Ivica Zubac, and Damjan Rudež.
The Croatian basketball has progressed on an annualised basis, and in 1992 the Croatian national basketball team won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Barcelona. The silver medal won in Barcelona and the matches in which we had the opportunity to admire big names such as Dražen Petrović, Toni Kukoč, Dino Rađa, and Stojko Vranković are still a frequent conversation topic.
The Croatian national basketball team created history and ranked at the very top since the Croatian independence (the Olympic silver medal in 1992, the bronze medal at the European Championship in 1993, the bronze medal at the World Basketball Championship in 1994, the bronze medal at the European Championship in 1996, in 2016 it ranked first at the Olympic Games Qualifications Tournament, and then it ranked 5th at the Olympic Games).
All of this has been confirmed by the induction of Toni Kukoč to the FIBA Hall of Fame in Geneva. There are three Croatian members in the Hall of Fame (in Springfield) - Krešimir Ćosić, Dražen Petrović, and Mirko Novosel.
