Hrvatski Telekom begins shutting down its 3G network in Osijek and surroundings
n mid-March, Hrvatski telekom will begin shutting down its 3G network in Osijek, Đakovo, Donji Miholjac, Daruvar, and Valpovo. These areas are the first in Croatia, where the 3G network will be replaced by 4G and 5G networks from March 18 to 22, 2024, with the complete project expected to finish early next year.
In line with its sustainable business strategy, Hrvatski Telekom will accelerate the transition to more energy-efficient 4G and 5G technologies by phasing out the 3G network. This strengthens the sustainable digital transformation of society, providing users with faster, higher quality, advanced, and secure services simultaneously. Additional investments in improving the 4G and 5G networks will open opportunities for further innovation and enhanced connectivity, positively impacting social and economic development.
The shutdown of the 3G network will not affect voice calls and SMS services. Users with 2G or 3G devices without access to 4G and/or 5G technologies can continue using their services through 2G technology, which HT continues to operate, allowing seamless use of calls and SMSs and data traffic according to 2G technology capabilities. Users who want a significantly better mobile internet experience should replace their device with a new 4G and/or 5G device. Furthermore, all users who use newer technology devices with access to 4G and/or 5G technology and have an older technology SIM card can replace their SIM card free of charge at any time at Hrvatski Telekom points of sale.
Hrvatski Telekom will regularly and timely inform its users about the implementation and timeline of the 3G technology shutdown process through announcements on the company website. More detailed information regarding the retirement of the 3G network and answers to frequently asked user questions is available on 3G Network Shutdown.
