- The goal of this competition is not exclusively to play video games but to connect young people across Europe and the world
Registrations for the second edition of the Telekom eSports Championship S02, a regional gaming competition launched by Hrvatski Telekom last year, have begun. The novelty this year is that, in addition to players from Croatia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia, players from outside the region, i.e., from other countries within the European Union, Great Britain, and Switzerland, can also compete. Registrations are open until April 30, and competitors can compete in Counter-Strike games: Global Offensive, FIFA23, and League of Legends.
The goal of this competition, organized by Hrvatski Telekom, Makedonski, and Crnogorski Telekom, is not just to play video games but to connect young people across Europe and the world, regardless of cultural differences, which countries they come from, which language they speak... This competition shows that video games are much more than just playing. It seeks to encourage a community of people with the same interests to create a community with mutual understanding and support. Despite the common belief that young people are socializing less and less and withdrawing into the online world due to new technologies, through this competition, Hrvatski Telekom aims to shatter prejudices and show that eSports connects people, encourages skill building, socialization, and builds a positive feeling among participants who are not only adversaries.
Last year's months-long competition had 1,366 players and a prize pool of €21,800, as it will be this year. The best teams that make it to the playoffs will compete against the best CS:GO teams in the region, namely Velež Mostar, Klan RuR, Zero Tenacity, and nemappojma.
The competition starts on May 15 and can be watched on Telekom eSports Twitch, and the finals will be held live in Zagreb on June 10.
"Last year’s tournament already showed that eSports is not just a game but a community that connects, brings people together, and knows no physical boundaries. Competitors and many spectators learned a lot, and it was priceless for us to see the friendships made and the support created despite the competitive spirit. In addition, the profession recognized the value of our project, so we ended up in the finals of MIXX 2023. This year we will try to provide even more interesting and educational content to our competitors," said Branka Bajt, Director of the Brand Sector at Hrvatski Telekom.
The tournament will be followed by leading regional influencers Malajski Tapir, MarkoKC, Lobanjica, Idžo, Aryssa641, and Crni Ante. They will talk about equality, the fight against hate speech, and self-care through their content.
You can register for the tournament on the esports.telekom.com page and follow all the details about the tournament on telekom.esports Instagram and Facebook channels.
