Hrvatski Telekom and partners present public bicycle system in Klis
Hrvatski Telekom, the company System of Public Bicycles, and the City of Split presented today the system of public bicycles in Klis, which was installed in that municipality as part of the "Choose a bicycle!" EU project, a total value of 13.6 million kunas.
The "Choose a bicycle!" project is carried out in eight cities and municipalities in the Urban Agglomeration of Split (UAS), a record holder in the number of users of public bicycle systems in Croatia. The public bicycle system was previously set up in Podstrana, followed by the expansion to the areas of Trogir, Kaštela, Solin, Dugopolje, and Dicma, and the upgrade of the system in Split. A total of 41 new terminals and 242 bicycles will be installed. There are 2 terminals in Klis with 4 electric and 8 classic bicycles and 16 bicycle racks.
The total value of the "Choose a bike!" project is 13,609,435.83 kunas and is co-financed by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund of 10,893,396.68 kunas, and within the ITU Call "Urban Mobility - Development of public bicycle systems in the urban agglomeration Split". The project will also prepare a study of the development potential of bicycle routes as a core document for developing an integrated system of bicycle roads in the area.
"Hrvatski Telekom is strategically oriented towards the digitalization of municipalities and the construction of smart cities to increase the quality of life of their residents. We have extensive experience developing new and innovative ICT solutions and smart city platforms in the form of measuring air quality, monitoring public lighting systems, improving urban transport, and charging stations for electric vehicles. Mobility is an essential aspect of a healthier and better life in smart cities. We believe that the public bicycles system that we are jointly implementing in eight Dalmatian cities and municipalities will attract great interest from citizens and tourists visiting the area," said Marijana Bačić, vice president for corporate sales and ICT services at Hrvatski Telekom.
"41 stations and 242 electric and classic bicycles are being procured as part of this project. We expect the completion of the planned trails and the installation of public bicycle systems in all eight cities and municipalities in the UAS by the end of the summer," said Vedrana Franić, head of the Department for International and EU Projects of the City of Split.
Further expansion of the network of bicycle infrastructure in the urban agglomeration of Split is popularizing the use of bicycles as an alternative form of public transport, which is a basic prerequisite for increasing the mobility and quality of life of citizens and tourists. "We are pleased that this project is being implemented in the municipality of Klis, which makes the mobility of citizens more accessible, cleaner, and healthier option. I am convinced that the system will come to life. We will continue to consider new locations to provide citizens with as many stations and bicycles as possible", added Jakov Vetma, Mayor of Klis.
"Nextbike drives cities and municipalities and helps reduce their dependence on cars by providing citizens with worry-free driving without harmful emissions. We manage the largest sustainable mobility system in Croatia and provide many people with a modern, fast, cheap, and, above all, healthy and sustainable form of transport. There are more than 100,000 registered users of the Nextbike service in Croatia so far", concluded Ante Gustin, director of Sustav javnih bicikala d.o.o., representative of Nextbike.
The annual subscription for public bicycles of 200 kunas allows unlimited use of bicycles for up to 30 minutes throughout the year. The price for all other users is 10 kunas for an electric and 5 kunas for a classic bicycle, for half an hour of use.
