Hrvatski Telekom and retailer Tommy open a fast EV charging station network
Hrvatski Telekom, the leading provider of telecommunications services in Croatia, and Tommy, one of the leading retail chains, have installed the first five fast EV charging stations within Tommy's retail locations in Dubrovnik, Malinska on the island of Krk, Solin, Split, and Zadar.
As part of the cooperation, Hrvatski Telekom and Tommy provide a free charging service for all visitors to Tommy shopping centers from 7 am to 10 pm (Monday to Sunday), while outside this period, the service is charged HRK 2.60/kWh with VAT.
According to the proposal by the European Commission, which envisions a ban on the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles in the European Union after 2035, as well as a legal obligation that all new buildings with more than ten parking spaces must have at least one charging spot, the two domestic leaders recognized an opportunity for cooperation. They together laid the cornerstone as a basis for the future systematic upgrade of the Tommy retail network with EV charging stations.
"I am very pleased that Tommy, the leading retail chain on the Croatian coast, has decided to offer visitors to its stores, both domestic and foreign, who come to Croatia for holidays, the opportunity to charge electric vehicles. Hrvatski Telekom is a leader in setting up and managing EV charging stations and providing digital charging services in Croatia. We are recognized as an ideal partner for this project. I believe that this is only the first in a series of projects that will jointly encourage the use of electric cars as the most environmentally sustainable form of mobility," said Marijana Bačić, Vice President for Corporate Sales and ICT Services at Hrvatski Telekom.
The fast-charging stations have been set up as part of the project "Comprehensive network of fast-charging corridors in Southeast Europe", co-financed under the EU program Connecting Europe Facility. Its purpose is to provide a superior charging service for domestic users of electric vehicles and tourists who come to Croatia on vacation by electric vehicles.
"We are pleased to participate in this and other projects that promote responsible and sustainable business because they offer solutions aimed at improving environmental standards. Applying the latest technological advances and working with partners who are leaders in the field, Tommy demonstrates social responsibility, raising awareness of the need for a more responsible attitude towards the environment. We hope that at a later stage we will increase the availability of fast EV charging stations at a larger number of points of sale and thus contribute to Croatia's energy transition while offering customers an additional service that increases the overall value of our offering," said Dario Mamić, director of Tommy's corporate communications.
Currently, Hrvatski Telekom operates more than 550 charging points at more than 240 locations in eight countries (Croatia, the Czech Republic, Montenegro, Kosovo, Northern Macedonia, Romania, Albania, and Poland). Hrvatski Telekom provides Croatian electric vehicle owners through the espoTs application with worry-free access to charging at more than 50,000 charging points in more than nine countries.
With almost 150,000 active charging sessions and more than 10 million green kilometers, Hrvatski Telekom is today the leader in e-mobility in Croatia and the region and the most reliable technology partner in their implementation and providing digital EV charging service. Through this, but also many other technological solutions, Hrvatski Telekom strives to connect everyone in Croatia with the opportunities that technology offers them.
The charging service at EV charging stations operated by Hrvatski Telekom can be activated in three ways - through T-RFID prepaid card, Hrvatski Telekom's espoTs app, and, for drivers from abroad, by e-roaming via more than 60 contracted European charging service providers.
