Hrvatski Telekom's the first in Croatia to launch 5G roaming
Hrvatski Telekom concluded an agreement for 5G roaming with Magyar Telekom, member of Deutsche Telekom Group. Hrvatski Telekom customers with a 5G-capable device and subscription plan may already enjoy the benefits of 5G on Magyar Telekom's network in the relevant 5G coverage area, based on roam like at home and fair use policy up to the amount of mobile data that can be used in EU roaming situations included in their plan, without paying extra fees. Magyar Telekom customers, with a suitable device and tariff plan, can use Hrvatski Telekom's 5G network when visiting Croatia in the areas covered by 5G.
“5G is synonymous with advanced connectivity from which all users benefit. Hrvatski Telekom was the first in Croatia to introduce 5G roaming, which is a significant achievement from a technological, but also economic and social point of view because it enables a better user experience and contributes to the development of tourism. Connectivity via the leading network does not end with crossing the border, but rather serves as a guarantee of the highest quality service in roaming, and we are committed to covering other countries with 5G roaming after Hungary”, stated Boris Drilo, CTIO, Hrvatski Telekom.
Hrvatski Telekom 5G network is continuously developing its 5G network which currently covers 45 Croatian cities and a population of 1.7 million. Hrvatski Telekom’s 5G network currently operates on 2100 MHz using Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) technology while awaiting the completion of the ongoing auction procedure for new 5G spectrum bands.
Magyar Telekom launched its commercial 5G service on the 3.6 GHz frequency one year ago and in addition to Budapest and Budaörs, the fifth generation mobile service is available in 21 localities at Lake Balaton, as well as in six county capitals (Zalaegerszeg, Debrecen, Szeged, Kecskemét, Győr and Szombathely). Last November, the service provider launched its 5G service in the 2100 MHz frequency band, and thanks to the new launch, and by using the two frequencies the national outdoor coverage of Magyar Telekom’s 5G network is now 9.8% of the population.
In the future Hrvatski Telekom is planning to conclude a 5G roaming agreement with other service providers in other countries ensuring the best customer experience on the leading network in Croatia and in the process providing an additional incentive for business and tourism sector in Croatia.
