Through an investment of HRK 4.5 million, Hrvatski Telekom connects 3,200 households in Poreč to fiber-optics
Hrvatski Telekom, the largest private investor in Croatia's digitalization, has started implementing the cutting-edge fiber-optic infrastructure in the town of Poreč and its suburbs.
It is an investment worth HRK 2.5 million, and about 1,100 households in the town center will have the opportunity to enjoy gigabit speeds. The plan is to complete it in the first half of 2021.
Hrvatski Telekom also continuously invests in the improvement of the existing infrastructure and equipment upgrades. The investment of an additional two million kunas will allow the inclusion of vectoring and supervectoring technology, which will enable 100 Mbit/s internet speed for 2,100 households in the communities of Varvari, Buići, and Musalež by the end of 2020.
With a superior experience of home internet connection, distance learning, and enjoying entertainment such as gaming, this project will improve the use of advanced digital products and services such as e-Citizens, e-schools, e-health, e-parking, and other smart city projects. High speeds and the availability of the internet will also improve the tourist offer of Poreč and contribute to the further development of entrepreneurship and economic activity.
Furthermore, Hrvatski Telekom signed a grant agreement in September with the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds and the Central Agency for Financing and Contracting of EU Programs and Projects for a broadband infrastructure development project in the town of Poreč and municipalities of Funtana, Kaštelir-Labinci. Sveti Lovreč, Tar-Vabriga, Tinjan, Višnjan, Vižinada, and Vrsar.
Within the EU project, Hrvatski Telekom will build a new generation broadband network infrastructure on the spatial scope of the project with the project partner, the town of Poreč, so that broadband access for 11,189 potential users (apartments, business, and public users) will be provided at the identified 7,979 addresses. Access speeds of at least 100 Mbit/s symmetrically connected to the optics (ultrafast access) will be provided for 90 percent of households and business and public users.
The Project implementation period is from January 31, 2021, to September 30, 2023. The total value of the project is HRK 68,596,456.66, of which grants of HRK 27,924,952.44 have been awarded.
"Hrvatski Telekom continues to invest in fiber-optic infrastructure even in these challenging times. I am glad that fast and high-quality internet access will allow the entire community of Poreč to increase economic activity and the quality of life of citizens. Early next year, Hrvatski Telekom will start implementing an EU project that will provide a quality fiber-optic infrastructure in Poreč and all surrounding municipalities with the project partner, the town of Poreč", said Boris Drilo, a member of Hrvatski Telekom's Management Board and CTIO.
"As mayor, I welcome this valuable investment that will ensure the fastest and highest quality telecommunications network for citizens and visitors of Poreč. We are also working on a large broadband internet project for the entire Poreč region, which will provide communities with fixed optics for faster internet. As a town, we strive to always work on projects that further improve the quality of life. Along with all other investments - such as the construction of schools, kindergartens, roads, and drainage - today, quality and fast internet can help us have the best possible everyday life and offer for guests. Through this investment, I am sure that we will make a big step in that direction as well", Loris Peršurić, the mayor of Poreč, said.
