The Town of Lepoglava, in cooperation with Hrvatski Telekom, has implemented a free WiFi internet project, which has provided the citizens of Lepoglava, as well as its visitors, with free internet in public gathering areas. Through the WiFi4EU program, the Town of Lepoglava has been awarded a voucher of EUR 15,000. Lepoglava chose Hrvatski Telekom as the best contractor that will technologically enable public free WiFi internet and modernize and facilitate the lives of Lepoglava citizens.
"By co-financing such activities, the goal is to achieve better involvement of members of the community in the unique digital market, provide end-users with access to a gig society and increase digital literacy and complement public services offered in areas where such free internet is available," said the Mayor of Lepoglava Marijan Škvarić.
As part of the WiFi4EU initiative, the European Commission is launching projects co-financing high-quality free internet access for citizens in public places such as parks, squares, public buildings, libraries, and museums. Twelve WiFi access points have been installed in the area of the Town of Lepoglava. They cover the most frequented places in the City: the city administration, the future market, the house of culture, the sports and recreation center, the city park. This will additionally facilitate access to internet services in public spaces and improve digital connectivity in the Town of Lepoglava.
Hrvatski Telekom is the largest private investor in digital infrastructure in Croatia, which has been continuously investing in the quality and development of mobile and fixed network infrastructure for years.
"We are extremely glad that cities and municipalities recognize Hrvatski Telekom as a reliable technological partner, which will provide their citizens with the best experience of using the public and free internet on the leading network in Croatia. With the deployment of the project in the Town of Lepoglava, we continue with Croatia's digitalization by providing access to good quality internet to as many citizens as possible. This implies investing in the development of fiber-optic infrastructure, WiFi access points, and mobile network," said Agron Kadiu, Director of the SME Support and Sales Department of Hrvatski Telekom.
