Hrvatski Telekom invests HRK 29 million in connecting 14,000 households in Velika Gorica to fiber-optics

Hrvatski Telekom invests HRK 29 million in connecting 14,000 households in Velika Gorica to fiber-optics

Hrvatski Telekom, the largest private investor in Croatia, has started deploying the most modern optical infrastructure in the area of the city of Velika Gorica, which will provide citizens with gigabit speeds and the best experience in using telecommunications services.

The project worth around HRK 29 million will enable the connection of as many as 14,000 households to ultra-fast internet with speeds over 100 Mbit/s, and in the future, these speeds will go over 1 Gbit/s.  In addition to the superior experience of home internet connection, necessary for working from home, holding distance learning and enjoying entertainment such as gaming, this project will improve the use of advanced digital products and services such as e-Citizens, e-schools, e-health, e-parking, and other smart city projects that require high access speeds.

“Optical networks to households undoubtedly enable the highest quality and fastest internet access and are an integral part of the digitalization of society, increasing economic competitiveness, and quality of life. We are very pleased that Velika Gorica is part of our fiber-optic investments, which will provide a large number of citizens with a superior user experience through the ultra-fast connectivity. Hrvatski Telekom continues with its investment plans this year in a challenging business environment. It is evidenced by the record 60 percent growth in covering Croatian households with optics, which we plan to realize this year,” said Boris Drilo, member of Hrvatski Telekom's Management Board and Chief Technology and Chief Information Officer.

 “Contemporary high-speed communication infrastructure nowadays is one of the most important preconditions for economic development and attracting investments. It is also important in all other spheres of social activities, especially education. In the City of Velika Gorica, in recent years, we have been continuously working on the improvement of the communication infrastructure, from the development of a broadband internet development plan to the establishment of numerous access points for free wireless internet access. The planned investment of Hrvatski Telekom in the optical infrastructure in the area of ​​Velika Gorica is the most significant development project of this type so far, which is equally important for economic entities and institutions, as well as for households,” said the Mayor of Velika Gorica Dražen Barišić.
