The growing number of electric vehicles on roads with the expected tripling of the number by 2025, the focus on reducing harmful gas emissions and the transition to cleaner forms of energy result in an increasing number of EV charging stations across the European Union, including Croatia. After opening fast electric vehicle charging stations within Super Konzum in Delnice and Karlovac in December, Konzum, in cooperation with Hrvatski Telekom as a technological partner, continues to expand the network of EV charging stations in Croatia by opening an ultrafast charging station at Super Konzum in Sarajevska Street in Zagreb.
With more than 250 charging points for all types of electric vehicles and more than 50 percent of all publicly available, interoperable EV charging stations in Croatia, Hrvatski Telekom is today the leader in e-mobility in Croatia and the region and the most reliable technology partner in their implementation and providing digital EV charging service. Through this, but also many other technological solutions, Hrvatski Telekom strives to connect everyone in Croatia with the opportunities that technology offers them.
"By participating in the project of opening an EV charging station, Konzum, as the leading retail chain in Croatia, once again shows its focus on encouraging sustainable practices and contributing to environmental initiatives, while providing the best possible service to its customers. With the opening of this ultra-fast charging station, we are setting new trends in Croatia. We are grateful to Hrvatski Telekom for recognizing us as a partner," said Ante Ćurić, Director of the Retail Network Development Department at Konzum.
EV charging stations enable the recharging of electricity in the battery systems of vehicles that use only electricity for their drive or use it partially. They differ according to the type of current they deliver, the power or speed of charging they can deliver, and the type of connection, whereas ultra-fast chargers of the DC type deliver direct current for charging cars, thus charging them faster. At the Super Konzum location in Delnice and Karlovac, fast DC-type chargers with a power of 50 kW have been installed, where the vehicle battery can be charged in about 30 to 45 minutes, while the charging station in Sarajevska Street in Zagreb, with a power of 160 kW, enables charging in only 5 to 15 minutes.
"The opening of the first ultra-fast EV charging station of Hrvatski Telekom is a significant step in the activities of our company in the field of developing sustainable mobility. By providing a place for charging electric vehicles, as the most environmentally friendly solution in traffic, we strive to provide additional impetus to create a sustainable and cleaner environment, which is part of the mission of Hrvatski Telekom as a socially responsible company and leader in providing digital charging services in Croatia. I am glad that Konzum has recognized in us the ideal partner for this important project and we are looking forward to the continuation of our successful cooperation", said Jere Dumanić, Director of the Business Customer Marketing Department at Hrvatski Telekom.
The ultra-fast charging station has been set up as part of the project "Comprehensive network of fast-charging corridors in Southeast Europe", which is co-financed under the EU program Connecting Europe Facility, and its purpose is to provide a superior charging service for domestic users of electric vehicles and tourists who come to Croatia on vacation by electric vehicles.
Users of EV charging stations within Super Konzum have at their disposal the Hrvatski Telekom application with a list of all charging stations in their network. All Hrvatski Telekom charging stations are part of the HUBJECT and GIREVE eRoaming platforms, which enables users from other countries to use them. Payment is possible with RFID cards that can be purchased at T-Centers and the PlugSurfing mobile app. Charging in Sarajevska Street will be free for all users until June 1, 2020.
