Nina Išek Međugorac, Director of Corporate Communications of Hrvatski Telekom and one of the first masters in the field of public relations in Croatia, was awarded as the Woman of the Year 2019! Under her leadership, Hrvatski Telekom and the Institute for Development and Innovation of Youth, this year under the auspices of the Ministry of Science and Education has been carrying out for the fourth year in a row the Generation Now donation program.
Contribution to building the world of better opportunities
How worth the project is and how much it contributes to creating the world of better opportunities, which HT committed to, is evidenced by the fact that over two thousand primary and secondary school students across Croatia have participated in the donation program so far. The donation contest aims to connect the existing and new knowledge in technology in the design of creative IoT projects, to develop creativity, innovation, and understanding of modern technologies, and to prepare younger generations for the jobs of the future. The value of the project has also been recognized internationally last year when Generation Now won the prestigious prize at the Native Advertising DAYS conference in Berlin.
Nina Išek Međugorac emphasizes that this recognition also confirms that companies with a higher purpose can and must make a significant contribution to creating a better society.
"It is crucial for us in public relations to hear and feel the needs of the community and to direct the organizations we work for to be responsible in society. As for the Generation Now project, I believe knowledge is the most profitable investment. With good education, everyone has equal opportunities, whether they are women, men, old or young, wealthy or poor. That is also the reason why this year for us was important and big. “Thousands of children in the donation program of Hrvatski Telekom have not learned to get good grades but have critically thought about the world they live in and learned how to use technology to create opportunities for them, their families and friends to be happier and to make their lives better. ", said Nina Išek Međugorac after the award. Additionally this year, in cooperation with Hrabri Telefon and Djeca medija, Corporate Communication department of Hrvatski Telekom presented the HT’s "Let's Play It Safe” campaign, which as a kind of video game guide points to the importance of timely education of parents encourages understanding of the subject and creates preconditions for safe and smart gaming.
About the award
Along with Nina Išek Međugorac, these outstanding and successful women were shortlisted for the Woman of the Year 2019: graduated economist Jasenka Auguštan-Pentek, mayor of Zlatar, then Ivana Paradžiković, moderator and editor of the research show “Provjereno”, and Ana Barić, Master of Medicine.
Magazine Zaposlena has held this award for the 24th time, presenting women whose work has specially marked the past year, who promoted women's rights through their profession and sought to pave the way to their younger colleagues. One of the goals of this project is to improve the media treatment of women and to eliminate their often unfair stereotypical roles. Each of the nominated women will surely continue with their outstanding work and career achievements to influence many women and encourage them to dare to do what they want, what fulfills them, and what they are competent of.
“The public often sees public relations as a dominantly women's profession, but to get to a managerial position of a powerful company such as Hrvatski Telekom, which is still a dominant 'male business', is undoubtedly a great success. However, the thing that additionally differentiates Nina Išek Međugorac is the fact that she uses her business success and achievement, the power and influence of the position, for the broader benefit of valuable social engagement, by directing part of her company's efforts and resources to projects that contribute to the community and society as a whole,” said Ana Gruden, editor-in-chief of Zaposlena and organizer of the Woman of the Year award.
