Zagreb's Branimir Center hosted on March 13 the second edition of the largest regional digital conference Digital Takeover, which brought together leading local and global experts. One of the key speakers at the conference was the President of the Management Board of Hrvatski Telekom Davor Tomašković who held an inspirational lecture "Digitally (un)ambitious Croatia".
By economic indicators, Croatia is at the bottom of the European Union, but as a digital economy we achieve unexpected results and have reasons for optimism, said Davor Tomašković.
Namely, Croatia is ninth out of 28 EU countries in cloud business, 14th in the total intensity of internet use.
"We are well prepared for the changes that await us, but we should keep in mind that their speed will never be as slow as it is today", he emphasized. By the intensity of telecoms' investments in 2016, Croatia holds the third place, but there certainly is space for improvement because Croatia is at the bottom of the EU countries in developing e-public services and connectivity.
"We need to be even faster and fix the things we are lagging behind in", said HT's CEO pointed out that the obstacles to investments are: Europe's most expensive radio spectrum in Europe, as many as 38 parafiscal charges and complicated procedures.
By solving these painful points, a considerable amount of investment would be freed, but there is no progress without people. STEM skills are the key here, and those who master them will attract capital, set up incubators, seek drugs for incurable diseases, and connect the world.
HT brings Croatia into the digital age
At the end of the conference, Business Leader awards were presented to the leaders of digital business in Croatia. These are the companies that have contributed to changing the picture of digital Croatia that define the way "digital business" in Croatia will look like tomorrow.

Hrvatski Telekom has been awarded for its contribution to the development of digital society. HT continuously supports the society through technology and infrastructure, STEM skills and know-how, products and services for more entertainment and connectivity, and tools that improve the businesses.
„This is a recognition for all HT employees, my colleagues who work hard and help the society to take advantage of the opportunities brought by technological changes - more connectivity, more opportunities for learning and sharing, more new jobs. Along with people, key investments are also crucial. As the largest private investor, HT invests significantly in greater connectivity, speed, STEM knowledge, smart society. In this way, we raise a new generation - the generation next, that the future and progress of our society depends on.“, said Nina Išek Međugorac.
