Can you imagine a waste container that would indicate by itself that it is fully loaded, that would reduce waste quantities, increase the separation rate and use solar energy for power supply?
This is exactly the solution found by Dubrovnik’s municipal waste disposal company “Čistoća” in the leading system for smart waste management, powered by solar energy, and they were the first to implement this system supported by video surveillance and analysis at as many as eight most frequented city locations.
These are the advanced video surveillance system of Vizura company and the smart containers named BigBelly and SmartBelly, a double-container station for collection of small size and selective waste in public areas, fitted with a GPS transmitter and software enabling it to send a fill level signal in real time, as well as notifications on the need to empty them. This comprehensive smart solution includes video recording with integrated sensors for air temperature, humidity and air pressure, sensors for CO, NO2 measurement, and of measurement of ambient light and noise, also powered by solar energy.
BigBelly is used for small size mixed waste, why SmartBelly will take selective waste – plastic or metal packaging. The Vizura video surveillance will record key indicators at each of the locations.
Thanks to the built-in press, the BigBelly container features a capacity five to seven times higher than ordinary containers, which makes this big belly the right solution for overloaded waste baskets that needed emptying up to nine times a day during the tourist season.
With its ease of use and innovation quality, this double-container set will certainly encourage citizens and tourists to engage in waste separation, an activity that is becoming more and more important and crucial for the preservation of a clean and healthy environment. At the same time, safety in the city will increase, as valuable information from the field is collected in the most accurate way.
In cooperation with Hrvatski Telekom, within the scope of the smart city establishment initiative, by introduction of smart containers and video analysis in the inner part of the city, Čistoća company is placing Dubrovnik among the top global cities raising quality of life and awareness of the importance of waste separation in public areas, and this is done in a smart way and with the help of cutting-edge technology.
