During the most prestigious world congress addressing the issue of ICT solutions intended to enhance the future of the cities entitled Smart City Expo, held in Barcelona, Hrvatski Telekom and its partners have presented three solutions for smart cities, which could be used in a large number of European and international venues besides Croatia.
14,000 visitors, 590 exhibitors, and 400 speakers were brought together in Barcelona, whilst Hrvatski Telekom, in co-operation with Deutsche Telekom, presented solutions implemented in cities throughout Croatia. One of the services is a smart electronic record system of municipal solid waste collection, developed in co-operation with the company EcoMobile, which is currently used in Koprivnica. The system comprises of waste containers with installed chips that transfer the information concerning the fullness of the container in real time, following which the system independently plans and provides the most adequate waste collection schedule. The solution optimises the operations for the service provider and enables volume-based waste fees and charging based on the number of times the waste is collected or based on the weight of the waste collected, which implies substantial benefits for the general public.
The solution in the field of e-mobility, use of electric motor for propulsion of vehicles, has attracted the greatest interest, since these specific services are anticipated to be worth EUR 5 billion on the EU market by 2020, in addition to a tenfold increase in the quantity of infrastructure and the use of services. Moreover, the service enables the development of a comprehensive digital platform for the connection of a vast array of ICT services and solutions, such as smart parking and connected vehicles, whereas the solution presented by Hrvatski Telekom in Barcelona is considered the most advanced comprehensive ecosystem services and charging infrastructure based on the turn-key principle. HT, as a part of the core team within the DT Group, with the greatest number of EV charging stations in Croatia, is also focused on the development of a Pan-European network of EV charging stations, which will be one of the pillars of further development of digital economy and smart cities.
The presented solutions also include a solution for the measurement of environmental factors, i.e. the air quality, which was implemented in the first smart street in Croatia in Dubrovnik in March this year. The solution is based on the Smart Sense Platform and it measures the temperature, the pressure, and five toxic gases in real time, whilst the data is collected in a cloud app.
Digital economy and ICT solutions from the field of IoT are considered the fastest growing economic segment, which on average grows as many as seven times faster compared with other fields. HT, in co-operation with its both strategic and local partners, is currently the only company in Croatia that provides comprehensive solutions for smart cities, from the basic infrastructure level to the actual implementation. Smart municipal waste management, smart parking, as well as solutions for cash register and box office are only a segment of a broad range of ICT solutions developed with its partners that generate substantial savings both for local budgets and companies throughout Croatia.
