Aiming to pay tribute and to mark this year's anniversary of the Memorial Day for the sacrifice of Vukovar, Hrvatski Telekom has launched a project of a virtual tour through the premises of the Vukovar-based Homeland War Memorial Centre available throughout the world. It is an opportunity for everyone to become acquainted with the recent history of Vukovar by visiting the website of the Vukovar-based Homeland War Memorial Centre.
The virtual tour provides a comprehensive experience of the visit to the memorial monuments of the city of Vukovar and its recent history through 360° panoramic images of five venues within the Vukovar-based Homeland War Memorial Centre: the Vukovar hospital, Homeland War Memorial Centre at Trpinjska Road, Ovčara Memorial Centre, Homeland War Memorial Museum, as well as a presentation of Stajićevo and Begejci concentration camps. The technique has been achieved through taking photographs of the localities using cutting-edge equipment aiming to faithfully present the details, whilst over 3,000 high-resolution photographs were taken at 33 panoramic locations.
This project is simultaneously also an interactive museum that provides the opportunity to visit Vukovar by taking only several steps at your computer, tablet, or smartphone.
"It is primarily during these days in which we are remembering the sacrifice of Vukovar that we believe a message of peace is the best message that can be sent. We hope the virtual tour that includes the memorial locations of the city of Vukovar is only the beginning of a successful co-operation between Hrvatski Telekom and the public institution of the Vukovar-based Homeland War Memorial Centre," stated Zoran Šangut, Director of the Homeland War Memorial Centre Vukovar.
The virtual tour is a donation made by Hrvatski Telekom to the Memorial Centre and the city of Vukovar, intended to present, explain, and provide a deeper insight into the story of Vukovar throughout the world.
"This project was intended to provide the opportunity for people throughout the world to become acquainted with Vukovar using state-of-the art digital and technological solutions and to take a virtual tour through its most vulnerable memorial places. This is our humble tribute to the history of this city and its people. Similar projects confirm the high significance of our investment in infrastructure and development of the latest technologies, as we provide the general public with the opportunity to access their most precious assets irrespective of their location," emphasised Davor Tomašković, President of the Management Board at HT, who has recently visited the School of Peace, the project that is the final phase of the two-day visit of elementary school pupils to the Vukovar-based Memorial Centre. He took the opportunity to give a presentation for the pupils addressing the issue of all the crucial advantages of the digital world, as well as of how technological development impacts our everyday lives and what the future holds.
