Hrvatski Telekom found itself among companies which underwent a procedure of independent assessment of its current practice in the segment of family responsibility and gender equality and which will, besides the existing positive policies, implement new responsible policies and practice during the next year, based on the received recommendations. The right to use the basic Mamforce Standard was also awarded to INA and 24 sata.
Asked about the importance and challenges which employers face in enabling responsible work conditions, Nataša Rapaić, Member of the Management Board of Hrvatski Telekom, said:
“Telecommunications industry is very dynamic, the market is very demanding, new technologies keep coming… Such an environment imposes a very high work pace – a high level of commitment is required from employees, who must keep up with fast changes and be innovative … It happens often that we are required to give much more than we think we can. In such circumstances, it is not always easy to find a balance between the professional and private life. Still, this balance is a very important issue in Hrvatski Telekom, because the employee satisfaction depends on this and the employee satisfaction is one of the three main strategic goals of our company. The success of HT is primarily the success of our people – it is the result of their work, knowledge, abilities, and enthusiasm. Therefore, Hrvatski Telekom pays special attention to the improvement of communication within the company, health of our employees, who have had free medical check-ups for years now, a constant improvement of knowledge and competencies of our employees, and their feeling of satisfaction in the company, by providing various benefits – from flexible workhours, sports events, and recreation to contracting benefits for holiday shopping in various shops, as well as free cinema and game tickets. One more thing is very important: out of 4000 employees, 40 percent of them are women, and the percentage is even higher in the top management – women make 43 percent of the HT’s top management.”
This significant award recognising the responsibility towards our employees was awarded by the President of Institut za istraživanje i edukaciju – Zaposlena mama (Research and Education Institute – Employed Mum), Dijana Kobas Dešković. The award ceremony was attended by the Minister of Labour and Pension System, Mirando Mrsić, whose Ministry has supported, for the past four years, the development of policies which enable gender equality and better balance between the professional and private life. The representative of HUP (Croatian Association of Employers) and Global Compact Network Croatia, Nataša Novaković, who is also and advisor of the Chief Executive responsible for labour market and human potential development, also attended the award ceremony.
On the occasion of introducing new members to the club of Mamforce companies, Dijana Kobas Dešković said: “When we started this initiative four years ago, it was very difficult to find conversational partners who understood why the topics we were proposing were important. Now, everyone is clear that the issue of balancing the private and professional life is essential for the life and engagement of employees, and consequently productivity of our companies. Furthermore, the gender equality issue has finally been recognised as an economic variable which contributes to the competitive strength of companies and national economies. We are very glad that the MAMFORCE initiative, together with the companies which follow it, has succeeded in bringing the market closer to trends observed in developed countries. Every new company brings a new value and helps us in our common growth.”
