At the HT Museum in Zagreb, Jurišićeva 13, the exhibition “Let us all talk over All-IP – Exhibition of telephony in Croatia, from the 19th century to the present day” has been opened, by which Hrvatski Telekom is celebrating the recent successful finalisation of the IP transformation project, i.e. the modernisation of its fixed telecommunications network, within the scope of which all its customers’ fixed telephone lines have been migrated to the IP (Internet Protocol) technology. The exhibition is a gift of HT to all citizens; therefore, admission is free.
The purpose of the exhibition is to demonstrate to the public how complex the telephony development path has been in the territory of Croatia throughout the last 128 years, which culminated in the implementation of IP technology with numerous positive implications. The exhibits – parts of HT Museum collections – consistently follow the development of all phases of telephony in Croatia, from its very beginnings to the present.
The exhibition was opened by Mr. Josip Hans Sekulić, Director of the Hrvatski Telekom IP Migration Project, and Ms Nina Išek Međugorac, Director of Corporate Communications at Hrvatski Telekom.
“Having successfully finalised the five-year IP Transformation Project, HT became the third telecommunications company in Europe to migrate all its customers and services to the All-IP network environment. By this achievement we confirmed our leading position on the Croatian market and created prerequisites for provision of advanced future services to our customers; once again, we demonstrated that we ourselves are forerunners in the area of technological trends in the industry, at an international level. This valuable and interesting exhibition shows that our present-day achievements have not sprung out of nowhere, but rather have a long and technologically very interesting history,” said Josip Hans Sekulić.
Emphasis on the social and technological aspect of telecommunications development
By the presentation and concept of the exhibition “Let us all talk over All-IP”, visitors are given a better understanding of the social implications of telephony development in Croatia – from the times when the telephone set was a status symbol, until now when we find it to be an indispensable and widespread item of everyday use. In addition, the evolution of telephone exchanges is clearly illustrated; each new generation offered a response to the key issues of the previous one, with particular emphasis on cost, efficiency, capacity, reliability and transmission quality.
“The exhibition is comprised of five information levels that respond to the key stages of telephony development in Croatia,” explains Goran Rajič, curator at the HT Museum, adding that “in terms of content, Level 1 covers the first two stages in the development of telephony, the so-called LB (Local Battery) and CB (Central Battery) stages; Level 2 deals with the development of automatic telephony, Level 3 addresses telephone exchanges with crossbar switches and indirectly controlled exchange systems – solutions that further advanced automatic telephony – while Level 4 covers the end of the electromechanical exchange era and transition into the era of semi-electronic and electronic telephone exchanges. Level 5 of the exhibition shows how the overall development eventually evolved into the phenomenon of “total communications” as witnessed today, and whose further evolution is expected in the near future.”
The exhibition “Let us all talk over All-IP – Exhibition of telephony in Croatia, from the 19th century to the present day” is open to visitors at the HT Museum until 1 May 2016. Until February 1, opening hours of the Museum are from 10:00 h to 20:00 h on working days, and from 2 February on, opening hours are from 8:00 to 16:00 h on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and from 10:00 to 18:00 h on Thursdays.
