Zagreb saw the opening of a new Hrvatski Telekom data center. The investment is worth HRK 62.5 million; this extremely demanding project has been implemented in cooperation between Hrvatski Telekom and KONČAR Group. It is the result of the joint efforts of Croatian experts and one of the most advanced data centers in this part of the European Union. In its operation, the highest technological, environmental and safety standards are applied. Hrvatski Telekom offers its customers accommodation, remote monitoring and management of ICT infrastructure in the data center, allowing for significant savings in operations and safe and optimal operation of equipment.
Among the distinguished guests of the ceremonial opening was Mr. Ivan Vrdoljak, Minister of Economy, who on this occasion pointed out: "ICT is one of Croatia's strategic industries, recognized as such in the Draft Industrial Strategy. This project once more proves that Croatian experts and Croatian know-how can build the most advanced technological solutions. I extend my congratulations to everyone involved in the implementation of this project."
"Construction of this data center is one of Hrvatski Telekom's largest investments in the strategically important ICT sector, By implementation of this project, HT continues to invest in development projects. In the course of 2014, we will invest more than one billion Kuna, thus reinforcing our position as one of the major drivers of development of the Croatian economy. Along with its leadership in Croatia's telecommunications industry, HT has been generating substantial results in the ICT segment throughout the last couple of years, where last year's revenue increased by as much as 25 per cent, compared to the previous year. Today HT, in cooperation with Combis, is the leading provider of ICT services in Croatia and one of the leading ICT companies in the Region. It is our ICT offer which we consider to be one of the key products in our plans for further expansion of operation in the Region and for increased export of our products and services", said Davor Tomašković, President of the Management Board of Hrvatski Telekom.
The data center's energy infrastructure was fully constructed by KONČAR which provided power supply equipment (transformer and generator station, low- and mid-voltage systems) as well as mechanical equipment (heating, cooling and air-conditioning systems). In addition to the project owner KONČAR – Power Plant and Electric Traction Engineering Inc. (KET), five other KONČAR companies were involved in the project.
"This project is significant for KONČAR, due to cooperation with the telecommunications sector and application of KONČAR engineers' own know-how related to new technologies. KONČAR is following and applying global trends; this is just a section of our operations, as our expertise and experience in leading complex projects are being applied in the areas of energy, transport, industry and, as in this case, telecommunications and ICT. Without constant development we would not succeed on the global market, and I am pleased that we can apply this in our country as well. Hrvatski Telekom has recognized our know-how and capacity. We are also open for expansion of cooperation in the development and creation of joint ICT products that have potential on the Croatian market and on the markets of the Region", said Darinko Bago, President of the Management Board of KONČAR.
HT's data center has been designed according to top global standards; during Phase 1, 450 square meters of server space was fitted. Implementation of Phase 2 will provide another 450 square meters of server space.
